Ode to my A/C

so quickly, just wanted to write in and tell you about my eventful night. so, wednesday night i slept horribly. oh, i took kassidy swimming in a neighbor's pool wednesday. very fun. i showed her how to hold her breath under the water. she did very well and enjoyed it. at one point she signed "more." with as much as she has hated having water in her face, i can't believe she liked going under the water. who knows? well, she was exhausted from that and fell asleep in michael's arms in her towel after her bath. she never just falls asleep in anyone's arms. i took a picture and i'll post it later. very sweet. but she slept great, fever and all. as long as i keep the meds in her system the fever stays down. more on that later, as well.

back to wednesday. . . i slept horribly b/c i was hot all night. more so than usual. then the next morning i kept staying hot and couldn't figure it out. well, around 1pm i realized that i hadn't heard the air kick on in awhile. yep, you guessed it, it just up and quit on me! i called our landlord who was out of town for the day, so i'm stuck for the time being. once the indoor temp. got to 80 i opened the windows, strategically placed our fans around the house and kept on cleaning. once michael got home we took a trip house hunting and to get kassidy in a/c again for awhile. we had fun and stayed out 'til her bed time. we settled in later for bed in the living room, b/c it was cooler. well, a HUGE storm blew in just as i was finally falling asleep. we closed kassidy's window and moved her fan. i worried b/c her room was still hot and she was pretty warm. we couldn't close the living room window, the top got stuck open. this particular window bounces open 5 inches. so it rained in on a towel trying to save the carpet. thunder and lightning louder than i've heard before. kassidy slept on. towards the end of the storm, boom, flash, the power goes off. no fans. yuck. i go in to re-open kassidy's window and she wakes up. scared b/c of the darkness, and hot. she wants to sleep, but is scared. she wants me to hold her, but she's hot and can't sleep that way. we try everything. nothing is working. i resolve that i'm not sleeping tonight. after two and a half hours, the power comes back on, bringing with it the a/c. who knew? we all get a few hours of sleep after that. the whole time we're talking about how nice it was to have fans! how we thought that it wasn't bearable, but then we lost power and yuck! it's funny 3/4 of the world or more (my own estimate) doesn't have a/c. how spoiled i am. i remember in costa rica seeing tin huts and being in awe that they didn't have electricity. but, it was kinda nice hearing the night noises and waiting for god to bring a breeze. sometimes we won't stop, so he stops us. overall, i am very, very thankful for air conditioning. did i mention that yesterday was the hottest day of the year thus far for us? yeah, i'm a haus!
