Hmmmm....
i hate cleaning. things have been so crazy lately with all the sickness that my apartment is a disaster area. but, you know what, having a dingy place is okay if it means comforting my child and spending time with her when she's sick. i wish everyone could experience how incredibly sweet she is. one night when michael was sick, he had laid down on the couch to sleep. his gatorade was on the table. she got it and handed it to him. she patted him on the back and said, "here daddy." then, she went in her room and came back with one of her blankets and gave it to him. to top it off she then returned to her room and brought him her "bunny-bear" that she sleeps with. she told him, "night, night." and then proceded to play. i wanted to cry. how empathetic. tonight we all (michael, myself, kassie, phyllis, and robbie) went out to eat and then to the movies to celebrate phyllis' b-day that was on saturday. she sat in my lap almost through the whole thing, which amazed me. she would get up in my face and just keep kissing me and saying, "mommy." she's amazing. she even got the lady in front of us to smile by telling her, "hi" over and over until she responded. anyways, the perfect man was a good movie. i really like hillary duff. i can't believe she's only 17. from what i've heard, she seems to be fairly wholesome. i hope she stays that way. her clothes are always modest which i love. props to hillary.
well, back to the cleaning. has anyone noticed that if you have a ceiling fan, the dust collects so much faster. it even collects on the walls behind pictures. speaking of pictures. . . i am hating the way my apartment looks. i need help with decorating. do you think everyroom needs a theme, per se? i want to overhaul everything right now. i am so tired of what we have. i'd like to just redo some things myself. like colors and such. we can't paint, nothing on the ceiling or the woodwork and we can't hang curtains. (our landlord is very particular.) but, i just ordered a duvet cover in ivory for my naked down comforter. i love red, but it's creeping into the whole apartment b/c i haven't succeeded in one room feeling complete. i like shabby chic things, i like toille(sp). i'm thinking that i'd like red and ivory toille in the bedroom with a country feel. kassidy's room will be pink and green with flowers and gingham. in the living room, i'm thinking americana kinda. stars and stripes, but rugged/country. and the kitchen i like the bright pastel teal color, but have no other inspiration. i have a hawaiian theme in the bathroom, but i don't really like it anymore. i miss my ducks. oh, well. if ya have any suggestions, tips, help of any kind would be cool. ya'll have much better taste than i do. . . i think. kati, i love your apartment. i can still see it, only though i've only been there once. chrissi, do you have tips about how to mat some pictures to hang w/o a frame? anyone else, just whatever you can help with would be cool. so , that's what's on my mind for now.
love ya'll~

hobby lobby has mats you can buy without the frames attached (i am sure other places do too, but that is the one i can think of) and you can get some frames without frames...they are basically the glass with backing and they have clips that go all around. you can buy those at pier one imports i know, maybe walmart.
one idea for a wall is to have a white wall, and have black and white pictures on your wall with different colored mats. try to stay with the same color density...for instance, dont do maroon with fire engine red, but hunter green and navy. pick your color theme...or design theme and have your pictures refelct that. if you want a tiki feel (which i think would be great for the kitchen) then hang pictures of hawaii (random postcards will do) and buy a grass skirt to use as a curtain (you can get those at party city) party stores are great for decorating and are way cheaper. if you do the bathroom tiki...you can do the same thing....drape some lei over the mirrors....have one of those dancing hula girls on the back of the toilet/on the sink. bamboo rugs.
me and you differ in tastes..country theme is not my deal, but if thats what you like..work with it. there are tasteful ways to do a country theme where it is not cliche. country is not necessarily red white and blue either...could be bear rugs and deer heads. you can go to cracker barrell and get ideas for country style, but dont overdo it. a touch of america is good (like a bear on the couch i with a flag, but an entire room of flags and stuff can be pretty overwhelming. send me a picture of your rooms and i will reaarrange them in photoshop and give you some ideas.) you can also have the entire country scene without having flags (can you tell i am trying to stir you away from patriotism) haha=)
http://www.countrystylehomedecor.com/ here are some ideas (copy and paste)
overall the best thing to do when decorating (especially on a budget) is to use what you have. do you have anything in storage? move the ducks from the bathroom to the kitchen. reorganize your decor. have any old records? trophies? niknaks? patty-wacks? bones? haha (did you get that). make a rocknroll living room with old records and 50's memoralbilia. make a india living room...hang sheer fabric from the walls (drape from one side of room to other) use lots of old wood boxes and frames...think belly dancer.
there are so many ways to go. didnt you at one time want a jungle theme for your living room or was that someone else? maybe me? zebra rugs and animal statues...hmmm...add your collection of animal statues on a wood shelf with green fake ivy (or something rainforest looking) and some vases with bamboo sticks in it...
see what you ahve....create a theme...pick a room, and have fun...do it so you are comfortable.
love you girl
thanks for the post on my blog....i love it when people actually respond
